Introducing The Miss Oju-Oge Pageant
Oju-Oge is a yoruba word, broken down,Oju means 'Face', 'Oge' means 'Fashion ' or 'Beauty' depending on the context it's been used. Oju-Oge for us means 'The Face Of Beauty'. With such a name, we hope to address the scars inflicted as a result of domestic violence. One in every three women in Nigeria have experienced domestic violence and as such bear the scars of domestic violence within, while smiling and looking beautiful on the outside.
Oju-Oge is about creating awareness against domestic violence, bringing healing to women scared on the inside as a result of domestic violence, so they can be beautiful inside out.
Oju-Oge started as a fashion brand, offering fashion /styling services, and it was from there the fight against domestic violence started as some of the women who patronised us where being abused at home and continued to stay in the relationship because of their children and because they were dependent on their abuser financially. Some of these women didn't even know they were being abused and even if they knew, they didn't know what to do about it,they just took it as their lot,so I said, why not speak out against this...
The Miss Oju-Oge Pageant is about promoting family values, empowerment and effecting change.
The major challenge has been funding and getting people to believe in making a change by coming out to speak against the menace of domestic violence.
Nigeria has a poor policing system, the issue of domestic violence is usually swept under the carpet as a family matter. The press, the family, church, society and the government all have a role to play in stopping this menace. With the right policing system, laws and right support system from the family and society,am sure this issue will be curtailed.
We have had three(3) editions of The Oju-Oge Fashion show. The first edition was in 2013. In 2015 we decided to have it in the university environment,Why? In order to educate the youth who are about leaving to start their lives about domestic violence and the ills of domestic violence , so we chose the university of Ibadan, being my alma Mata.
In 2016,we are bringing a twist to the project by hosting a pageant 'The Miss Oju-Oge Pageant 2016' and unveiling it with a fashion show. 'The Miss Oju-Oge Pageant 2016' is about empowering young Nigeria Women to effect change in the society, alongside speaking out against violence in the home.

Photo: Dallas nurse with Ebola has been identified
The Dallas nurse who contracted Ebola while treating Liberian Thomas Eric Duncan at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, has been identified at 26 year old Nina Pham. Nina, according to report, was among over 50 staff of the hospital that cared for Duncan who later died on October 8th.
Nina is said to probably have had the closest contact with Duncan, she was his personal nurse and was in his room often. She and others who cared for Duncan wore protective gear, including gowns, gloves, masks and face shields, and sometimes full-body suits but that didn't help Nina. She's officially the first person to contract the disease within the US.
She's currently being treated at the same hospital. Yesterday, she received a blood transfusion from Ebola survivor, Dr Kent Brantly. Hopefully she will make it.
